Pamela Jenkins
Alto and Soprano saxophonist, flautist and wind synthesizer player, Pamela Jenkins has been cultivating her craft for over 40 years! A native of Michigan, Pam picked up the saxophone at twelve years and has yet to retire her neck strap.
Over time, Pam has developed an emotional and moving performance style, with a tonal quality reminiscent of Grover Washington, and Phil Woods.
Committed to learning, Pam began incorporating the use of music technology in the mid 1980s, not only in the creation of orchestral backgrounds for live performances but also as a convenient tool for her arranging and composing activities.
Although instrumentally accomplished on sax, flute and keyboards, Pamela can heat up a room with a powerful voice containing just the right amount of “edge” that one hears from the likes of Bonnie Raitt or Janis Joplin.
Touring throughout the continental U.S. and Europe has been interspersed with higher education. She is on the faculty at the University of Maine at Augusta in the Jazz and Contemporary music program and holds degrees from Saginaw Valley State University and the graduate degree from Central Michigan University in music performance.
With all this being said, when Pam plays the saxophone, a “hush” blankets the audience.
